I spend a lot of time creating Back Links!

It is an essential part of solid SEO work for any site.  Google puts such effort on your quantity and quality of backlinks, that if you ignore it, you might as well through in the towel now!

How much time you do spend on your Back Link development?

I spend on average 6-10 hours a week creating my backlinks, or should I say I did!  It really depends on my goals for the site and the competition.  The more competition, the harder I drive to create Back Links.

How many back links do you actually create?

If I am working on High PR or industry leader back links, I can create 4-6 an hour.  If I am just messing around, then I can usually get up to 10-12 an hour.   So if you are working 10 hours a week, with an average of 8 links an hour, that is 80 a week (without taking into account attrition and denied backlinks).

How long does it take for your hard work to show up?

This is the other frustrating part of back link building.  It can take several weeks for a back link to show up (if the blogger uses Pingler, then it should show up within the week!)  I am pretty results driven.  So if I spend a lot of time building Back Links, I want to see my counters grow on a daily basis!

So how do you automate back linking the right way?

Yes automation, if done properly is our friend!  I have tried several automation services, and to be honest, I have never been very impressed with any of them.  I have spend as much as $995 with additional captcha decoder fees, and the issue is the back links were not natural looking!  Which means, Google frowns on the links, and eventually, you will get hammered.

My Results!

I spent about 6 hours playing with the software over a couple of days, and have created a steady stream of back links (currently at 8-10 a day) with relatively little maintance.  This means I am spending $50 a month for about 300 backlinks and I have saved myself hundreds of hours.  Now I still drive high value PR page links, but I have cut the amount of time down to a couple of hours a week!    My ranking is climbing, and I am getting additional traffic from all of these great back links!  What more can you ask for.

Yup, you heard me right.  I am going to show you how to develop high page rank back links in just a couple of minutes every day.

is the brain behind Google’s ranking system.  It gives weight to different aspects of a persons web site.  Here is a list of important things to remember:

Back link is a vote!

So, the importance of who is voting, now comes into play.  If some one has a website that is ranked in your industry, they would be considered an expert, or at least someone that understands what is going on.  This vote counts more heavily than someone that doesn’t have a ranked page.  I am not saying this is right, it is just how the Google looks at things.

So, do you want to find these elusive high PR pages?

Of course you do.  If one of these high PR ranked pages can equal 1000  non PR pages, it would be smart to find several of these and politely make a comment, with a good anchor text back link (read my post http://playingbiz.com/are-you-getting-the-most-from-your-blog-commenting/ to understand what a good anchor text is!).

Please note, these pages are ranked for a reason,

and the people who run them know what they are doing (usually).  So Don’t spam, but engage and be a good commenter.   Leave good content, or all the work you do to find these pages, will be erased in a second when the webmaster deletes your comment!

Download SEOQuake Now!

Visit http://www.seoquake.com/ to get the plugin.  This will help you determine what page is ranked, and which is not.  This page is a great resource for anyone interested in SEO!  I am not going to go into how to use it, as they have great tutorials.

Now for the top secret formual!

copy this text into a Google search box:

site:.com inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “ADD YOUR KEYWORD”

add your keywords for the red text.  This will bring up blog sites, that usually allow you to add comments to them.  Prioritize the page ranking with SEOQuake, and you will find high page ranked website (blog sites) that pertain to your keywords!

Do this a couple times a day, for the next few weeks, and you will have all the back link love you can handle.   Now, these sites will be crawled by Google at some point in time, so it will take some time to register these, so be patient.  Also, now that you have found these great PR sites, book mark them, and return every so often and create more over time as there is content to comment on!

Everyone loves getting the Blog love!

Comments mean people are reading your posts and you are getting your message out.  Even a quick, thanks for the info comment means a lot to me.  I love getting notified of new comments.  It makes me feel good that the time I take to put up content is reaching an audience.  I take a lot of time looking at other bloggers info, and if I can, share their info (with kudo’s going to the owners!).

What are some of the benefits

of posting to other peoples blogs, besides, sharing the love?

Google!

Yes, the all seeing Google loves when you post comments to other blog sites.  Do you understand the mechanics of this.  If not, let me share with you the ins and outs and how this can be even more beneficial to you as a commenter, than the commentee!

Now we all know that when you post a comment,

Google know you have placed a vote for this content.  The more votes the better ranking.  However, beyond this, Google also notates the back link (if enabled) back to your site.  Why is this important.  Well, it shows a vote to your site as well, so right now the score is 1 to 1 on helping everyone.  Back links are a real big part of Google’s algorithm on ranking sites.

Now for the TOP SECRET information

to use when posting a comment to get real mileage out of it.  When you create a comment, the site usually asks for a name.  What most people don’t know about this information, is Google uses this as the anchor text for the link.  So if you use your name, say Joe Comment, Google will increase the ranking for that key word in its ranking.   So in this case, if you do a search for Joe Comment, your page may be ranked number one.  Is this what you want, not really.  So to take advantage of this power Google has given you, use one of your Key word phrases in front of your first name.  For me, I use Internet Marketing Kris.  So every time I post a comment, I get a vote for Internet Marketing, which is one of my main key words.  This is almost like stuffing the ballot box, legally.

So the next time you feel compelled to leave a comment.  Use a keyword or a couple with your name to help you rankings.  The site you are commenting on wins and you win!  If you do this, just make sure the comment you are leaving is good content.  If not, it will look like you are spamming, and no one wants to see this!

Lets face it, everything we do on our websites, has one main goal, or at least it should play a large part of your thinking…  Google.  Google is our lifeblood.  Get ranked in the top 3 of Google, and you are in traffic heaven.  So does Google know what you have done on your website today, yesterday, a week ago???

How do you tell Google, or any other search engines out there that you have done your homework and updated your blog…  If it were just that easy, pick up the phone, call 1-800-GOOGLE and ask for a spider… Well, actually it is that easy, and I want to show you how to do it, no phone required.

Pinging is the tech term to send a request.  This request can be as simple as, are you up.  To Google, and other search engines, a ping can mean, I have done some work, please come take a look and update your files.  Without getting into to much technical gobbly gook, let me introduce to you Pingler does offer (which I participate) a fee based automation, that allows you to add all your websites and they take care of pinging the search engines as often as you set, up to every 3 days.  This service cost as little as $2.99 a month.  So for these than the cost of cappuccino, they do all the hard work for the month.

How effective is it?

One of my sites I manage SendOutChocolates.com is 3 months old, and I have been actively working the SEO.  I was sitting at about 4.5 million from Alexia, and within a week of pinging my site, it was at 3.2 million.  Now, I don’t think this was all due to the ping, but it definitely had a large part in it.

I was trolling the blogs around the web, trying to stay up to date on important developments in the social world.  I came across a very interesting article about what twitter shows us about our mood.

Now since I am a marketing strategist,  this caught my attention.  Watch the video:

So what does this tell us, besides people that live on the coasts are typically happier….

I feel it shows the biometrics of the country.  The rhythm of our moods.  It makes sense if you think about your day.  If you can’t sleep, were are generally annoyed, thus the 3am is really red!  After work, we are tired, and once we get home things typically get better.

So why does this matter?  Timing.  Do you want to get your message to people when they are happy or pissed?  Some bloggers want their readers good and pissed off, typically political posters,  or other consumer aspects.  We act when we are mad!  Other bloggers want happy readers.  Others don’t care, they just want readers.

To me, I will use this to target the audience when I want them to be in a specific mood for my rantings… Think about what you want your read to be, emotionally, when they get your content and plan the release accordingly.  Obviously there are other factors, like when are your readers online and such, but twitter or facebook postings can be timed to take advantage of the mood.

Do you GET Social Media?

I mean, do you really get it?

As a professional, newbie, hack, or what ever you are, do you understand Social Media.  Why am I asking this, Let me share with you….

I talked to a local company (that deals with Internet service) a few weeks ago about managing their social media.  The sales and marketing guys got it.  They understood what was involved and were ready to pull the trigger.  The only hitch, was the owner had to approve it.  Well after going back and forth for a couple of weeks, the owner decided he wanted to wait until a new big event was going to be launched in 3 months.  Needless to say, this frustrated everyone involved.

This got me thinking.  Who gets Social Media.  Obviously 500 billion people get it (Facebook hit this number of users last week).  Every time I turn around I see more Social media badges.  I even saw one at the movie theater, for the theater (about time if you ask me…).  So, for those that don’t get it, here is my list of why you should get involved (especially if you are a business) with Social Media, and the sooner the better….

You can get bogged down in the little details of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) without getting much done.  If you have limited time, knowledge, effort, or will power to dive into Search Engine Optimization focus on the Big 3!

• Content – Solid and fresh
• Links – good links from good authority sites
• Activity – traffic

You have all heard Content is King.  This is should be your kingpin of your Search Engine Optimization efforts.  Creating and posting articles and/or blogs every couple of days will make the search engines very happy.  Make sure you do the little things with headers and tags if you have a few extra minutes (it is well worth the extra effort).  This content should be focused on your keyword effort, with a word density of no more than 5.5 as a rule of thumb.  With good Content the rest should be easy to do.

Get votes.  As far as search engines are concerned, a link is a vote for your site.  Create links back to your site, link pages from within your site, get your followers to put links up on there sites, and post links to other pages of your site from within.

The, Let’s Get Social… Get out and spread the work of what you have created through social networks.  You, know, Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz, Digg, yadda yadda yadda… Tell all your friends and associates in your network to go visit and comment on your content.

From my knowledge of search engine mechanics, if you focus on these 3 things, faithfully and dutifully, your site will be successful.  Make a habit of doing this 3 times a week.  If you get hung up, it doesn’t hurt to grab an old posting, and freshen it up with some new additions.  When I post something on a Monday, it usually could be rewritten by Friday with how fast things move on the web.

So, lets recap.  Get Content (create your own or pay someone to do it), create links and get links from all your friends, and then get social and active and share throughout your networks.  Step and repeat.

Lets face it, Social media was suppose to make life easier, help us stay more connected, and control every second of our life…

Do you have 20-30 hours a week (or more) to catch up, stay on top of and execute a solid social media marketing campaign?  If you are a small business owner, then I know the answer is NO!  As a business owner, you have learned to capitalize on other peoples strengths, by outsourcing, hiring, contracting, and partnering.  Don’t let the simple idea of networking on Facebook lull you into a false sense of security.

There are over 100 social network sites (and that list is growing every day) that you could participate in.  If you are active on a network site, honestly, how long did it take before you were comfortable with it before you were fully participating in it.  It takes a new user an estimated 20 hours of use before they are comfortable with a new Social site.

So what is a business to due when you realize you need a clear voice to carry your message…  Let me introduce to you the emerging Social Media Manager.  These people live on the web,  they have already spent hundreds or thousands of hours working in these sites and are ready to plug your message into the waiting masses heads.  Social Media Managers understand the audience that each site drives, and can help you start up the program, and develop it over time with your end goals in mind.

A word of caution, Social media isn’t the fix all.  It should be used in conjunction with a solid online marketing plan.  If used properly, it can work hand in hand with your other marketing efforts.

Online Marketing is changing at a pace that is so fast, it is hard to stay up to date, and run your business.

I have been marketing online since 1996 (no joke, my first website that I coded myself was http://www.kriana.com, and it has come along way since then). Back in the good old days, all you had to due to rank, was put up a site, make sure the words you wanted to rank for (key words) were in the text several time, and you were ranked in a couple of weeks. Now things have gotten a little more complicated.

I currently manage several websites, and maintain this one for all of my readers. Due to a computer issues (mostly due to me not doing regular backups) I have had to start this site over from scratch.
